FAQ

What languages do you translate from / to?
From English into Swedish. In exceptional cases, also from Swedish to English.

How much does a translation cost?
You will receive the exact price when the document has been analysed. Factors that are taken into account include: word count, file format of the original document. For example, the price can be lower if there are repetitions in the text, while it increases with the extent of the layout work.

Is proofreading included?
Self-proofreading is included in the price. External proofreading by another translator can be arranged at an additional cost.

Will there be discount if the same text is repeated in the document?
Yes, a word analysis of the document will be performed via the translation software. The analysis report shows repetitions and similar sentences, which is charged at a discounted price.

How long does a translation take?
Approximate 2000 words are translated per day, as standard.

Which file format is best for translation?
MS Word. However, translation can also be completed in most other file formats. The scope of preparation work required before and after the translation depends on the file format and reflects the final translation price.

I have a large document to be translated in a very short time. Is this possible to arrange?
Through our network of additional translators, we are very flexible and can perform such assignments. We completed an assignment of 180,000 words translated within a month, during August 2010 for a very satisfied client. (See reference list). Additional project management charges apply for this kind of assignment.

It is important that the translation is consistent in both word order and terminology. How do you ensure that?
We use as standard the market leading professional translation software SDL Trados Studio 2009. It is a very advanced translation software with many functions including: quality control and term verification in addition to translation memory. I am a certified instructor of the software, therefore we can utilise it fully, which means that the translation is carried out efficiently with high quality results.

We have old translations and related original documents, can these be used for the current translation?
Yes, using a software called SDL Trados WinAlign, sentences from original documents and translated documents are paired and then imported into the translation memory. This is an extra service and not included in the translation fee.

How can I contribute to the best possible quality of translation?
- Provide as much reference material as possible. This allows the translation to be better implemented into the company’s / product’s existing documentation.
- Review the document in advance. Is the English text correct? Are there terms that should not be translated? Are there any formatting problems?

In the document there are images with embedded text that can not be edited. How do you handle such a text?
The translation is delivered in a Word table or Excel, with English text in one column and Swedish in another.

What happens during the translation process?
A translation order is received. If translation memories, termbases and reference materials are supplied, a project is prepared. The project materials are strictly adhered to during the work. A comprehensive selection of product-specific glossaries, dictionaries, specific tools for internet search and translator forums are frequently used. When the document have been translated and proofread, a detailed QA check is performed. The QA checker in the translation software is set to the strictest scrutiny and detects errors such as double points at the end of the sentence, doubled words such as ‘and and’, digits which do not match between source and target text, etc. The document is then exported from the translation software to the original document format for the final layout check before it is delivered.

Once the translation is completed, can I use the translation memory?
Yes, just specify what you want from the translation project, and we will deliver these parts.

Is there anything special I should do when I have received the translation?
Yes, review and approve it. If no objections are submitted within 30 days from the delivery date, the translation is considered as approved. Maximum indemnity liability for translation errors is limited to the price of the translation.
